LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT

                          LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT

Management: is the act of getting people together to accomplish desired goals and objectives using available resources efficiently and effectively. (Oxford)

Leadership is a very wide subject that cannot be contained in one book or volumes of books for all generations. Reason being that situations and circumstances change and the dynamics of change require a particular type of leadership.
Leadership is sometimes born out of need and challenges of the time. Some leaders have been good in management of the status quo, others, good at providing situational leadership, and some good in providing transitional leadership in corporate settings and organizations. Some bring out their skills in transformational  and developmental leadership. Whatever type or style of leadership, the bottom line is the ability to manage people, to be people centric, which is basically your human resource for achieving the vision and goals.

To be a need conscious leader or manager is a result of being sensitive to your responsibility which is the people under your care.
Need conscious and people centered leadership is a very good recipe for stability in any given organization even in the  corporate world.

To be people centric should not be at the expense of the task to be done. There is a need to strike a balance between people oriented and task oriented leadership.
None should be done at the expense of the other since none can be done at the expense of the other cos there is a natural interdependence between the two.

Leadership is the provision and motivation which gives  direction that leads to the fulfillment of the organizational goals and aspirations.

Management is a vast a subject as is leadership. It has several styles that work in different settings and environments.
Systems in management are critical for everyone to know what to do, how to do it, when to do what needs to be done. A good knowledge of  the linkages of the systems in the value chain of the network of things that make the entire organizational management work is very important. It helps in the managerial coordination of the systems for better delivery of the expected outcomes.

When all leadership and Management structures and managerial systems are in place delivery is inevitable. When one of the other is being manipulated or compromised the converse is true. It is rewarding to both the individual in the line of duty to apply him or herself in leadership and managerial responsibility if we are to realize a better today and tomorrow.

Leadership without management is failure before you start. Management without systems  weakens the leadership. Systems failure shows poor management in any given organization. Systems need calibration, synchronization and adjustment, and these can only happen when there is good, responsible and sensitive management which is part of the leadership.
